What Is the Steering Committee?

The OIS Steering Committee is the advisory body for the Oregon Intervention System

The Steering Committee assists with the OIS Project by:

  • Responding to special issues generated by policy makers within ODHS and State or local government.
  • Responding to special issues generated by OIS professionals.
  • Reviewing and providing direction for adapting portions of the system or process to accommodate and meet State,
  • Regional, County, Organization, Instructor, and individual needs.
  • Reviewing and approving requests for modifications to OIS physical intervention techniques.
  • Approving, suspending, and/or decertifying OIS instructors.
  • Providing input to ensure the curriculum and policies meet current Positive Behavior Support practices.

Meetings

The OIS-SC meets in the months of January, February, March, May, June, July, September, October, and November. The meetings are open to the public. The contract holder submits an agenda to all OIS-SC members and the ODDS representative one week prior to the meeting. The OIS-SC follows a modified Robert’s Rules of Order with motions, discussion, and voting. When confidential information is presented, members of the public may be asked to step out of the meeting.

Becoming a Steering Committee Member

An OIS instructor can apply to the OIS-SC at any time by submitting an application. When a vacant position occurs, the OIS project will review all pending applications to determine if the applicant meets the criteria for the open position. The OIS-SC votes on the applicant at the next OIS-SC meeting. If there are no pending applications for the vacant position, the OIS project will announce a call for applications. If no applications are received in 30 days, the current voting member will be offered another voting term. Terms are 4 years.
