Counseling & Therapeutic Services
Each person’s experience is unique; therefore I believe taking a strengths based and person centered approach is the most effective way to build rapport and trust. My focus is on being approachable, empathetic, non-judgmental, supportive and authentic. Collaboration is imperative and through our work together, I help guide clients and their families to learn techniques and strategies in order to live better quality lives.
About Sara Correa-Hepburn, LCSW
Personal Background and Therapy Training:
I received my Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) from Portland State University in 2010. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have additional training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma work and The Incredible Years Parent, Teacher & Child Training Series. Using both a person centered and strengths based approach through my work at Alternative Services, Inc. I provide individual and family therapy services. I also offer Clinical Behavioral Consultation services through contracts obtained by various county providers and I am an Oregon Intervention System (O.I.S.) Master Level Trainer.
Primarily, my work is with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with co-occurring mental health diagnoses and their families. Specifically, I have experience working with individuals diagnosed with Mood Disorders (e.g. Anxiety, Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder), Attachment Disorders, Personality Disorders, Adjustment Disorders, Attention Deficit & Disruptive Behavior Disorders, Trauma / Abuse issues (e.g. PTSD), Schizophrenia & Other Psychotic Disorders and those diagnosed along the Autism Spectrum. I also provide a variety of trainings for support staff and care providers to assist in client support and best practices.
The foundation of my theoretical orientation is in Cognitive Behavior Theory, though I pull from and work with Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory and Family of Origin among others. I also do a lot of Grief and Trauma work with many of my clients and their family members, depending on the circumstances and topics at hand.
